Always wanted to have a ride that compliments my personality as well as provides me the enjoyable means to go form point A to point B. The choice after much research ,re-research and beating the same research donkey again again was fixed on Hyundai i20. A detailed write-up is provided here . May be this is happening for the first time that my blog gets a second seat but that is only now. I plan to write a detailed report on my experiences with my new ride. For now its too much celebration around so have to keep this post really short. Pictures galore:

Wishlist : Terminator 5

Before I begin my continuation on the Terminator topic, heres a small synopsis of McG’s vision for the sequel:

In statements to FilmJournal, McG further reveals his plans to have the movie set in 2011, pre-Judgment Day. Skynet has figured out how to send non-Infliltrator Terminators such as Hunter-Killers and Harvesters through Time Displacement EquipmentJohn Connor is also sent back through time to fight the machines using present day military tactics and technology. While in the past, he meets up with the scientist played by Robert Patrick. [2] Rumors have been circulating that the next film will take place in modern day London, despite the fact that Terminator 3 shows Judgment Day happening in 2004. [3]

McG also hinted that John could very well end up meeting his mother Sarah upon going back in time. [4]

Love it or hate it this vision is not going to do any good if kept the way it is. There are a few rules which you should never cross. Rules define existence and if you break rule then you loose definition. Unlike the media branding which always projects breaking rules as something heroic-it is not so if not done decisively. And that is exactly what I must suggest to McG when he is hell bent on breaking rules even before he fully understands the rules that define the Franchise.

Anyway the focus of this post is not McG bashing but to see how Terminator 5 can be a less Epic fail than it already is.So lets roll………. Read more…

Terminator Salvation: First Impressions

Finally I got time to watch the most awaited movie of this Summer. Though the movie was released on May 21st, it was last week that I managed some time to go and watch it,mostly because of my travel to Europe and all.  Its been more than 4 years that the last movie abomination was released and the memories of the previous episodes were begining to fade.So before I went to the movie, I made sure that I had watched the first three installments to go to the movie fully prepared and also to come back with an unbiased view which had already become an object of introspect after I read about the reviews online. To tell you the truth I believe I have got an unbiased view on this movie and theres just so much to write. So I will focus on the first impressions and a short review of the movie here before taking on more intellectually challenging topics in my following posts. A few days back I was asked to review Crank 2 but I think the bitching can wait a post or two. It is imperative that the robot apocalypse gets the first precedence and hey ! Arnie is there !!!

YAAAAAAAY !! ARNIE !!!!

At the land of LORDI !

Well guys, the blog took a backseat as I was preparing for my travel. Not many times do people get the chance to be at the place where they can get a chance to meet the band which some people (irwing to be precise) do not approve . I am yet to visit Turku though so once I am there I will hopefully put up a detailed report-but its not very far from the facility I am working from. Anyways ….. after a long journey through Frankfurt, I came to Helsinki. I will put up a summary of my travel sometime later but for now I will keep this post updated with photos I think is quite new for me !

The aquarist in me :)

I have had a variety of pets in the past and I had planned to acquire one with my money when I get a job. So by the time I made enough money to support that I got married. My wife is not so affectionate to dogs which doesn’t look like cats or overgrown Rats with hormone imbalance. So that left out my first preference of a hound/Rottweiler/Retriever. We happened to have a long weekend last week here in bangalore and one of the red flags on our to-do list was to renew our son’s admission to his Play School. On the way we just stumbled upon this dingy shop in a dark corner on the first floor of a two storied  building in Marathalli Market which put up a signboard saying they sell aquariums. Now my wife never had any experiece with the wet pets but I did. Though she noticed it first , it took a little bit of on the fly gyan session which instilled sufficient confidence in her and we decided to check out what was on offer.

Inside we met the shopowner busy pulling out gunk from some unreachable corner of his shop. The shop was not even at par with the local shop that I remember from Kolkata. It had some 6-7 large tanks with water as murky as horse puke in pee and the air smelled like I have entered into a closet which was not opened in the last 100 years. However the fish tanks on offer were decent and colorful ones though imperfect in terms of finishing. After a bit of juggling with choices we both settled for a small red house like fish Tank. The shopowner promised profusely that he is going to provide ‘free’ air pump, filter, stones and air stone along with 5 pairs of free fish.We managed to make that 6 pairs of fish. The fish were very common mollies in various colors. One went belly up by the time we reached home giving a bold certificate on the quality of the fish. A little haggling settled the deal for 900 INR. Though initially had a heart warming feeling that the money was worth it, it wasn’t soon enough that we both started suffering from the buyers remorse.

*This was something that I noted down a long time back after I watched Love Story : 2050.I wanted to elaborate on each of those points with sufficient justification but given the Epic Failure in the box office I think now that there isn’t any needed. Also this post will not affect the box office anymore. You can totally stay away form this post if you do not like reading about jumbled thoughts. This was something which I was going to delete today but thought of posting it for the benefit of the 50 daily visitors who visit my site even if I do not post. Usual disclaimers apply.*

Black Hole SUN

April 27, 2009 beingbongo Leave a comment

“No one seems to get this, but “Black Hole Sun” is sad. But because the melody is really pretty, everyone thinks it’s almost chipper, which is ridiculous.”    - Chris Cornell , SoundGarden

Press reports say that Oracle has agreed to buy Sun for $9.50/share. This comes after the negotiations with IBM failed at an advanced stage. Now I usually do not write about corporate matters in my personal blog because clearly I wish to keep it free from mad people injecting it with unnecessary legal greenpaper with or without purpose, reason or practicality. But there are times when I feel that the thoughts are so overwhelming, its better to put it down so that something good might come out of it. That is the reason why I shared my views on the dismal state of yahoo to the readers sometime back. Now since I brought this up,just a small update, but yahoo seems to be limping back to its good days slowly. But that may or may not be a topic of a future rant. We are discussing the recent acquisition of SUN.Also I sincerely implore you to agree to THIS before you read it further. If you do not agree you must stop reading and go HERE.

SUN- According to google image search !

SUN- According to google image search !

We cannot imagine the world without the sun and I cannot imagine the IT world without SUN. Sun has been iconic with its unix and top notch server systems that power most of the major economies. Also my entire student life during my Bachelors was ridden more with SUN than it was with any other systems. SUN is so much ionic that even text books take it as a standard. And I have not even discussed its business potentials and technical specialities. Now UNIX and servers systems were not its only selling points. SUN is equally (probably more) famous to the newer generations for something called Java. The programming language in its entirety revolutionized dynamic web content and set up an industry precedence and cult following which soon exploded into mass adoptions and implementations across all devices large or small. A major mobile community thrives on Java and Java based games and applications and a modern mobile is not considered worth the money if it doesn’t support Java. So apparently they were doing well !

Not this Java you moron........

Aa Dekhen Zara : The Review

April 21, 2009 beingbongo Leave a comment

People who read my previous rant should know that this was coming. A detailed and engaging view on “Aa Dekhen Zara”.I cannot recall when in recent times I have written two reviews back to back but it seems that happy times are back for my blog.  Anyway, more than a year back I wrote a review of the Neil Mukesh Starrer  ”Johnny Gaddar” . I have mentioned there that this new lad showed promise. And he doesn’t disappoint here either. The only things I didn’t think has gone quite right here is the fact that his role has become a lot stereotypical. He is dirt poor, he gets a means to make lot of money not through conventional means and finally pumping up adrenaline to make the end justify the means. But this movie is not about Neil only-theres a lot into it.Lets start with the trailer:

Synopsis: Neil is an extremely poor  freelance photographer often having his a$$ boned by camera thieves, goons and of course, credit card recovery agents. Whatever meager means he has is because of a not so generous editor of a newspaper. One fine day he gets  a news that his photography mentor- his grandfather has expired and he should be there at his house to pay his respects. He goes there and comes to know from his advocate that his grandfather was working on something that made him take huge loans against his assets. Also he left a letter for Neil.

8X10 Tasveer : The review

April 20, 2009 beingbongo Leave a comment

Haven’t been following up with the latest bollywood releases lately. However the occasional trailers that forcefully numb you senses when surfing through the available bouquet of mostly useless and uninspiring satellite channels made me put two movies in the “should watch” list and 8×10 being the one- the other is “AAn dekhe Zara”. Now when it comes to Akshay Kumar movies, I find them as a sadistic orgasm of inflections with a bully-ing drawl and attitude , attitude and some more attitude- all the while every other co-actors cowering to the cornermost part of the frame to save their pony a$$es from the entire me-me-me blastorgasm. But you cannot deny the fact that despite his stereotypical bullying and drawlish inflections , he is one of the top tier paid actors in Bollywood today. So usually given a choice I tend to pass Akki-movies.However this time even the trailer was replete with intellect-as well as an indication of a possible mind f*ck… so this time I decided to treat this as an exception and watch this movie.

A short synopsis: Akshay Kumar is Jay- the only immediate heir to a very rich oil tycoon. He has chosen his life with the environment and works as a Forest Ranger to earn his living in the deep woods of  Canada. He is married/living together with Ayesha Takia in a small forest cabin and has dislike about his father’s business possibly due to the eco reasons. Also Jay can look into a photograph and figure out the few moments surrounding the time the photographs were taken. Literally he gets into the picture -though for only 60 seconds beyond which he barely has a chance to live nay longer. In this premise good old dad dies in a fell-from-boat-and-died-of-heart attack-in cold water event. People see this as an accident converging with the fact that dad already survived two strokes. In comes Happi (Happy with an i)- some paranoid ex police guy once helped by dad and thinks that this may be a murder since Jay’s mom denied a post mortem. Also a picture of the entire group was taken moments before the accident.Armed with it Jay sets out to find the killer and what follows is a rare cocktail of suspense and thrill coupled with a big time(though formula oriented) revelation that takes the viewer through a wonderful joyride of entertainment. Star-Trek: Where Gene Roddenberry never thought of going before !

April 14, 2009 beingbongo 1 comment

I am an avid trekkie,my first brush with trek was the sundays of my younger years when the original series used to air on Doordarshans.I used to wait out the entire week for that.My fascination with gadgets – may be- started at that time.I had a sweater which was just like the blue one which Leonard Nimoy used to wear for the character of Spock. And many a times it had been my improvised trekkie costume on sundays specially during the winter months. But due to reasons unknown Doordarshan decided against continuing it and it was stopped.Years went by and before we knew it we were already on the Cable TV era-by this time Doordarshan created and lost its metro Channel and people really didn’t bother anymore of what is being shown on the national television.Of the initial channels Star Plus used to serve us with cool US programs before its crushing indianization in its all hindi Saans Bahu Avtaar but the Star network came up with a parallel channel called the Star world which happened to air seasons after seasons of Star Trek: The next generation. Also there was another channel called Hallmark which used to air the other gem of Trek TV – “Star Trek: Voyager”.Coupled with the Mainstream movies, it gave the taste of Scifi like never before.

Starship Voyager: Catherine Janeway and her crew

Starship Voyager: Catherine Janeway and her crew

Now things changed-things changed with the release of Star Trek: Nemesis [Movie] and Star Trek : Enterprise [TV series].Both were disasters and spelled doom for the entire franchise. The internet was full of articles that described how old this franchise was and how unnecessary it would have been to continue with it. But a decision was made to remodel the franchise with relevance to the current world and present it with a whole new outlook.Guess what-the trailers are looking promising already !
